An Indian dhal shield

This is a small brass shield or buckler with a rolled rim and four central bosses. The foliate-pattern enamel decoration on the front is typical of the Indian city of Benares (a.k.a Varanasi).

There is one minor dent in the edge as well some very limited loss of enamel. All four bosses still have their rivets and hexagonal swivel-ring attachments. The stuffed pad to protect one's knuckles is also still present and in quite good condition, although it has lost its leather edging in some places. These pads have often been lost in other examples that I've encountered. Overall, it just needs new fabric or leather grip straps, and some reinforcement to the knuckle pad.
