A vintage Scottish dirk with glass cairngorm - SOLD

A nice vintage 20th century  Scottish dirk with an amber glass cairngorm.

While not an antique, I believe this example to have been made sometime between 1950 and 1990 and almost certainly in England or Scotland. I base this conclusion on the good, crisp jimping and fullering on the blade, the fact that the blade appears to be carbon steel (instead of stainless), the use of EPNS mounts (as opposed to more modern cheaper 'white metal"), and the fact that the hilt has been carved from ebonised wood (instead of molded from cheaper brown plastic).

The pommel had come loose previously and was glued back into place by a previous owner. It has since come loose again, and I cleaned up the adhesive used by the previous owner and have only lightly re-glued it, because I didn't want to risk leaving traces of adhesive on the hilt.

The small bolster at the base of the hilt was likewise loose when I bought it and I have lightly re-glued it as well. Ideally, it would have new pins put in to hold it in place. Other than that the hilt is rock-solid and the blade in near mirror polish. The scabbard has some scuffing and is missing its small by-knife and fork.

Blade length: 28 cm

Overall length: 43 cm

Length in scabbard: 46 cm
