A Tulwar from Sindh - SOLD
Tulwars with moderately curved blades showing a single broad fuller, a thick spine and a "pseudo-yelman" at the tip are generally associated with the regions of Sindh and Punjab. More particularly, tulwar hilts of this elongated form with a canted pommel are identified with the Talpur dynasty who controlled Khairpur, Mirpur Khas, and Hyderabad in Sindh.
The blade is in good condition with minimal pitting and only a small recent nick to the spine. It shows signs of forged construction and is still sharp. The hilt retains traces of delicate silver koftgari floral decoration and the langets are of a less commonly seen, slender and foliate, form. The entire assembly is still very solid and in good condition.
Blade length: 77 cm
Overall length: 89 cm
The blade is late 19th century, the hilt early 19th or even 18th century.
