A George V 1821 Cavalry Officer - SOLD
Blade length: 90cm
Overall length: 105cm
1910-1922
A WWI period 1821 Pattern Cavalry Officer's sword. The blade is marked "HOBSON & SONS 1-3-5 LEXINGTON ST. LONDON. W." with the proof mark "PROVED P" and the royal cypher of George V.
Hobson & Sons were quality outfitters of uniforms and military equipment in the 19th and early 20th centuries and the blade on this example was probaly made by Pillin, one of the best swordmakers at the time. Pillin was taken over by Wilkinson in 1922. As such, this sword can confidently be dated to the period 1910-1922. The fact that it is lacking a regimental badge would suggest that it was purchased during WWI.
The grip is still solid and good condition with no loose wire or missing shagreen.
